Solar PV
The term 'solar panel' is often used interchangeably to describe the panels that generate electricity and those that generate hot water. Solar panels that produce hot water are known as solar thermal collectors or solar hot water collectors. Solar panels that produce electricity are known as solar photovoltaic (PV) modules. These panels generate DC electricity when exposed to light.
New Build
New builds are the ideal time to install Solar PV panels and will help with building regulations while providing you with renewable energy for your new home.
Commercial & Farm
Choosing a Solar PV solution is not only good for the environment, it's good for your Business too. Installing a Solar PV system will allow you to reduce your costs.
Battery
Battery energy storage systems are used for larger solar PV systems, so that the excess electricity generated during daytime hours can be used at another time. This new technology is only installed in certain suitable homes or businesses.
Cheaper Electricity Bills
On average, a solar PV system can save you up to €1100 per year on your domestic electricity bill. This will make a big difference to your household running costs, allowing you to save for what really matters.
Improve your BER
By investing in solar PV, you will also be making an impact on the BER of your home. When it comes to selling your home, a higher BER will add value and help you achieve a higher sale price.
Reduce your Emissions
Generating your own renewable electricity also has benefits for our environment. The energy you consume will be clean energy which cuts down on your greenhouse gas emissions.
EV Chargers
Charge your electric vehicle with free energy from the sun. Your EV charger can be configured to work in conjunction with your PV panels.
Install
A home charge point is usually installed on an external wall of the house and electric car charging is facilitated through your domestic electricity supply.

Your Journey to Sustainable Energy Starts Here
At Caldor Solar, we’re not just selling solar panels; we’re championing a brighter, cleaner, and more sustainable future for you and Ireland.
And we’re happy to answer any questions you might have.
Solar panels typically perform best up to 20–30 years after installation – then they will slowly start to deteriorate in terms of the amount of power they can generate.
Monocrystalline panels are one of the most efficient options to generate electricity, with a yield of 18–23%. They’re best for those with limited roof space. Thin-film or amorphous panels are cheaper, although their yield is only 8–12% and they need more space. We use matt black mono panels that’ll blend into your roof seamlessly, composed of best-in-industry materials.
Typically, the best place to install solar panels in Ireland is on your roof: ideally, away from any obstacles or objects that could throw shade on them and facing to the south for the highest yield. See our post on panel placement for more.
Contrary to popular belief, solar panels can still generate electricity on cloudy and rainy days – just not as much as on sunnier, brighter days. It’s a question of light, not heat, after all – and fortunately, Ireland receives plenty of sunlight. You can maximise this output further by installing a solar battery for your panel system.
For context, a typical home in Ireland may need 10 panels to cover their energy needs. In terms of your business premises, that figure may differ depending on your business’ energy consumption, on your available roof space, plus its design and location.
It depends on your organisation’s energy consumption and the number of panels you’ll need for your premises, plus the type of system you’ve chosen. But for a rough example, 10 panels with a 4.3 kW system from Caldor Solar will cost around €5,600.
Businesses in Ireland are eligible for a Non-Domestic Microgen Grant, which can cover up to €162,600 towards the cost of solar panel installation. You’ll need to work with an SEAI-registered installation company (like Caldor Solar) in order to apply. We can help you with this process, or see the business grants page for more info.
